A Bit About Tommy

Tommy grew up in Chicago. He started music lessons at 8 years, playing local shows at 14, joined the musicians union at 17 and performed with his first national artist, Frankie Valli, at 19. He played at Disneyland the following summer. He studied at DePaul University School Of Music until leaving to go on the road with the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra followed by a national Broadway tour.

Highlights include performing at major venues in over 40 states including the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, Roseland Ballroom in New York City and the Trocadero Ballroom at Elitch Gardens in Denver. He was an in-demand backup musician performing with Michael Jackson (Jackson 5), Tom Jones, Engelbert Humperdinck, Doc Severinson, Eartha Kitt, Lene Horne, Lou Rawls, Tex Beneke’s Glenn Miller band and many others. He put his music career on hold to follow his family’s tradition of business and financial management. Tommy loves being back to his roots entertaining audiences of all ages with his horns, flute and vocals.

The Tommy Saxman Duo plays a mix of contemporary pop, R&B and American standards all with soul and jazz sauce on top. They play familiar pop and R&B anthems like Marvin Gaye’s “What’s Goin On?” and “Heard It Through The Grapevine”, Fleetwood Mac’s “Dreams”, Amy Winehouse’s “Rehab” and Miley Cyrus’s “Flowers” to get the audiences attention and mix those songs with jazz classics from Miles Davis, Eddie Harris and many others. Improvisation with a touch of soul runs through all the music. Tommy Saxman Foyer on saxes, flute and vocals, and John Caldwell on keyboard. The “Old Soul Dudes” have paid their dues over a few decades of performing for a variety of audiences across the USA.
